UNDER THE GREENWOOD

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

We had the most wonderful time hosting our first photography workshop in April. Victoria Carlson taught three sessions coving topics of managing a successful photography business, posing clients, and editing. During the three styled shoots attendees were able to practice new skills and try new techniques while shooting alongside Victoria. We had twelve photographers from all over Oregon join us for the two day event. Each photographer brought their own styles and eye and added to the amazing weekend.

I love inviting people into my home. Growing up I had the privilege of watching the women before me prepare spaces and food for my family to gather. My grandmother and mother are both amazing hostesses, they always have an abundance of food and an ability to make you feel seen and loved. The refrigerator is always stocked with your favorite yogurt and muffins, and the kitchen island is always filled with snacks before meals are served. Now that I have my own home,  I’ve discovered the love of being a host. I am not an entertainer, loud and commanding, but I am a host. I can create a space for people to feel seen and loved. Hosting the first workshop in our new home was a dream come true. It is always a risk to step into new adventures and this one was no different, but looking back I am overwhelmed with gratitude.

There were so many moments during the weekend that I had to pinch myself. To have some of my dearest friends lend their hands and talents to make this dream a reality was so humbling. Victoria shared her heart and wisdom, Woodland Floral made some of the most beautiful flower arrangements, Niesje helped me co-lead the weekend, Jonathan was the head chef who designed, prepared and cleaned up all our meals. Vanessa helped style our bohemian shoot and did all the hair and makeup as well as food prep and clean up. Jaron and Christina drove ten hours to be apart of the weekend and model for our main styled shoot. Danny shot video of the event. Thomas made all the custom tables for our classroom and dinners. Plus we had many more people show up for the unglamorous jobs of cleanup both before and after the event. Here are some of the beautiful moments that were captured during the weekend. I hope you are inspired to dream and find people to dream with. Beauty is worth pursuing and is often found in unexpected places.

Below are images taken by the photographers that joined us, all capturing different moments and emotions. Grab your cup of coffee and settle in to enjoy all the beauty of the weekend.
